holly fulton and cool tights

i was perusing coolhunting and stumbled upon this.
holly fulton
which makes me more excited to visit europe this summer.
holly fulton's s/s2010 was inspired by an imaginery trip to new york city.
i love the whimsy/futuristic look of this collection that heavily recalls cartoon imagery, photographs of new york city arichetcture and imagination. the bright colors, prints and silhouettes of the collection are fun but thought out, the dresses are very unique but don't seem to overwhelm the models, which is important. even with the bright colors and prints, the dresses don't wear the wearer. maaaaaan, i wish browns would sell these online. better start saving up for it.
the one i'm lusting after is look number 4. the heat here in the summer can get unbearable and this looks (looks being the KEY word here) looks lightweight.

doesn't it look quite lightweight?

anywho, here are some tights i wore this week

chanel tights from two years ago

eley kisimoto- black tights with glitter horses on them

and a bit of russian animation that i'm obsessed with. this video is one of three parts on youtube.

now i'm off to school to print things 20in x 24in

went to a fashion party, oh la la

last night i went to a fashion party thrown by rogan/loomstate in honor of earth day. it was hosted by the loomstate and pamela love. i met the street peeper and we talked about fashion blogging, it was pretty super awesomely interesting. it was topical, i'd say.
here are some photos. there was a massive drum circle and it nearly blew out my ears. but it was cool! you could feel the beat reverberating in your belly.

it was fun but i had to skaddadle right home for my room mates 23rd bday!
i was late, i felt bad.
i guilt pretty easily >.<

also
these are for aviva
printed tights.
aviva is the queen of printed tights.
inspired by her

prada thigh highs worn today, repetto shoes

tsumori chisato tights, rag and bone shoes, worn yesterday for the loomstate party

hansel from basel tights, repetto shoes worn on tuesday

apc shoes that cut up my feet (should i sell them????) and hue socks from ricky's

well, i'm off to go do a photoshoot in aviva's apt!
i'll post pics of that soon.

some things n such

hello all!

this whole week has been full of wonderful weather, ridiculous shoots, and just crazy catch up with essays, work and more more more shootiong.
here's my thesis for you to look at.

my artist statement
I grew up along the Southern gulf coast of the United States. These images are an exploration of the culture of my family, which is strongly rooted to the area. Culture manifests itself intangibly and tangibly, via the family unit and the decoration of the home. The photographs of myself as a debutante and my grandmother’s home further emphasize this idea of “southerness.” The color palette of her home and furniture of her house are similar only to other houses in the South. The bottom triptych references the idea that without the physical reminders of the home, the bonds of family preserve the “southerness” of my culture, even when we are thousands of miles apart from one another.

All of these images were shot between the years of 2007 to 2010 on Kodak Vivid Color 160 and 400 speed medium format film

so that's my thesis. it's smething, that for my undergrad work, i'm quite proud of. it's not quite there yet to be a portfolio for my graduate work...but this is mine and it's a body of work i really stand behind and defend. this is my work and i'm quite proud of myself.

but onto other things and such.
here is some street photography shots i took for refinery 29.

also up at hasted hunt kraeutler gallery, there is this amazing show up called great photographs of the 20th century: staged and startled. this one shown on my blog, is by richard avedon. he bent the paper when exposing it to make the woman's neck appear longer and more swan like.
if you get a chance and are in the new york area, you should check this out. at 537 W24th st

and here are some random things i shot over spring break (so over three weeks ago!!!) in new orleans.

vintage scarf, vintage shorts, new glasses, prada shoes

the church across from my friend's house

my friend's backyard

i can eat sugar again!

because lent is over!!

in celebration of lent being over, my lovely facebook wife, katelyn, came into town for friday and saturday. then, on sunday i went to the easter parade to see a 20's band play- michael arnella and the dreamland orchestra. it was hot, lovely and crowded. to cool off, irene (with the carmen miranda hat), monique (a lovely lavender) and myself took cover in the university club. sipping on whiskey and mimosas, we mingled and chatted in the lovely AC and watched the revery from the windows. but once we discovered the bathroom, of course we mad a mini-photo shoot.
SATURDAY
the usual debauchery took place. posing for photos, talking about our lives whilst drinking jim beam and eating pomme frites. trekking to brooklyn, there and back again, all over. wearing deer spines on necklaces and naked lady collars.
it was a great weekend.

katelyn, in vintage fur and found deer bones from her forest in PA

my newest purchase! sort of broke the bank on this one...but it was worth it

similarly scented facebook wives! katelyn in vintage, myself in lewis tap shorts, rag and bone boots, an on sale urban outfitters top, miu miu collar

modeling with my favorite chloe perfume that katelyn and i doused one another in. we smelled like classy, older women

me as audrey horne. gap shirt, vivienne westwood skirt, prada thigh highs, repetto shoes, my favorite type of tart apples

SUNDAY

later on in the evening, there was a lovely dinner get together in brooklyn heights. all of the men from the band continued to play into the evening, well after we had finished all the champagne. we ended up sitting on the stoop at some point, eating chips and drinking rum. the evening air was cool and we decided to head to a diner. it was a wonderful end to a very anachronistic and beautiful day.

michael arnella dancing with mary laura.

drew nugent on the piano

and just for the kiddies

coffee and pie, oh my.

ttfn!
